im a intermediate/advanced skier (on grooms) and wanna take on the various jumps at the slopes at tahoe. ive done them before but cant seem to get enough speed (always hit the knuckle) and when l clear it, im off balance onto one ski. im on all mountain skis set to 8.5 up front and back.

how am l supposed to take jumps?

Do not be an idiot. Here u r talking about jumps in the same sentence where u talk about skiing on ''groomed'' runs. l suggest u learn how to properly handle ur skis in real varied snow conditions before u start thinking about jumping.

Jumping when u have not really learned how to ski, except for groomed conditions is a prescription for disaster.

Kindly excuse me for being ''old school,'' but in my world real skiers work on their mogul skills, crud skiing, powder skiing, & form. You can be one. Stop fooling around with jumping & other silly ''grandstanding'' & get to it!

For crying out loud.

If u cant clear the deck u need to get more speed. Try straight lining from higher up or tucking. Do not speed check before the jump. When taking off, stay in an upright, athlectic possition, knees bend, weight balance, hands out front. When u get to the lip of the jump pop off of it. You acutally want to jump off the lip use ur quads to push yourself into the air. This will keep u more balanced while in the air. Keed u eyes on the landing. Extend ur legs to absorb the landing & keep ur hands in front of you. Stomp it & ride away like it was nothing. Try a trick once you've masterd that.

l am a fat man, but even l can get air on the right jump.

You need a straight on apporoach for maximum velocity. If u slow down as u approach the jump u will get no air.

l tend to tuck going into the jump & pop just as l am hitting the top of the jump, pushing myself upwards.

Too much pop & u will faceplant before landing.not enough & u get no air or u will wind up on ur butt.

That is the basic jump & it will get u up to do backscratchers & maybe enough to cross skis & get a grab. If u want to do 360s & stuff, u will need more practice & ask another question.

You want to learn it? So you have to eat some snow... Sometimes it can be painful, but with each fallover you learn something... No risk no fun..

You can jump with any skis, but first things first, you have to know how to ski.

try working on smaller jumps first

then get bigger
