how will my bindings be too far back negatively effect my skis performance? l have public enemey is 07/07 series and l think the bindings are mounted too far back. l wanna ski all mountain, and l wanna know if im going to be all over the place with no control over my skis.

Well bindings are normaly set back a little bit on the ski. but park skiers like to move them to the middle to help switch skiing and big mt skiers set them farther back to give them more flote in pow so in the end its a prefrence and style that you are looking to

If you are skiing the POW POW you will want them set pretty far back. If you are going to be spending your day hittin jumps you will want them a little further forward. When your bindings are set too far back it will make the skiing a bit dicey on the hard pack and for hittin them jumps but if you have good control it wont make a gigantic difference.

Forward mounting is more common nowadays than it was a few years ago. Freeskiers & Pipe/Park folks have been trending to a mount slightly forward of center.the average I've heard most people talk about seems to be 2cm-3cm forward. A forward mount will give u a bit of an advantage when launching off a jump because u can lean into the launch just a little more & have a bit more leverage. Forward mounting is a bit more common on twin-tips as well & does help when u ride them backward. When u boot-balance out a ski, often times that extra 2cm forward will even out the ski so it is perfect. Moving a twin-tip is mount back will only make it harder to ski on backwards.

l have to say it is a new-school practice more than an old-school practice. l read a ski mounting article last year & one of those interviewed was Glen Plake. Glen..(at 42 & with 20+ years of hot-dog skiing)..is still the man, & he mounts his skis pretty much where the reps say they should be mounted. So there is something to be said about sticking to what the ski-companies say their stuff should be mounted at.

Everyone else so far has given u the advantages of mounting further to the rear. They were all pretty accurate.
I've putzed around with forward & rear mounts, sometimes as much as 5cm. l have a few skis that look like swiss cheese from the drill, but for the most part,a center-balanced mount will be fine. To find out if ur planks r balanced, put a shelf bracket into a wall fixture or find something really thin u can balance ur skis on. Try to balance the ski. If there is an equal amount of space from each tip to the center u have a center-balanced mount. If one side is longer than the other the they had to move it forward or back to balance out the ski. It is common, but if u do not like the way they ride, take them back & see what the deal is. Maybe they botched up the mount.
