l am traveling to Japan in January for a business trip. The guy l am meeting is an avid skier, but l have only snowboarded twice and that was when l was in 5th grade. l have to impress this guy or at least not make myself look like a fool. Anything will help!

try taking lessons on a dry/indoor ski slope

You have 3 weeks at least to be ready. Go to a ski area with a good ski school & enroll in some lessons. It usually takes about 4-6 days of skiing to be reasonably competent on a beginner or intermediate slope. If he is an avid skier as u state, do not try to be an expert, just explain u r just learning the sport after a long absence. Stay on the slopes where u r comfortable & never be ashamed to climb back out of a run that is beyond ur ability. Any good skier will enjoy having company but u do not need to be a top skier to have fun.

Basically Skiis r Rollar blades that u put on snow & r much bigger.

Dont make a V with ur legs, make a ^ (if ur at the bottom of each) to go slower

Dont do a V or else u will experience pain after a time, depending on ur speed

if u want to turn do one of the following

For a nice & easy turn just lean toards the way & kinda tilt ur skiis that way

For a imediate turn then take the opposite foot of the direction u want to turn & place it (not in 1 step, stop between) in front of u & a little to the side facing the direction u want to turn

When skiing the go side to side so u stay slow

Say that ur a beginer skiier & that u have never skiied before (maybe he will give u tips & if not it will explain why ur bad if ur bad)


Oh & wear lots of warm clothing cus it gets colder, much colder then u think once u fall & u will fall (snow gets in & then u get wet.)

First l would take a lesson if possible, key points is balance, Turning and edging add into the circle. There are also indoor programs at gyms which really make a difference. Going out on the mountain could be more dangerous to you and others without the proper know how.

Another vote for taking a couple of lessons beforehand. It is very difficult to explain simply without demonstration, as darkangel shows.

Unless you have been bignoting yourself about your skiing ability your business colleague will understand that you are learning and he will not expect a lot. The fact that you are making an effort will be enough to impress him.
