My boyfriend loves to ski, and I am terrified even on the green trails (even though I am not terrible for a beginner)Does anyone have any recommendations for books, videos, or even just advice about how to not only be a BETTER skier, but a less terrified one?(l always take a lesson at the slopes, but that only seems to help a little)

You did not explain what u r exactly afraid of. l have a fear of heights, but still will climb high trees & enjoy the out doors, even look of the edge of a cliff. If u r scared of injuring yourself, wear a helmet & go skiing. Ski at ur pace & over time u should get more comfortable with it.

l have an knee that will go out of socket to the right about two inches from a motorcycle injury with a car. l wear a brace & go skiing all the time. There is a fear of hurting my back and/or knee again, but l enjoy the outdoor. Wish u well with it.

What r u afraid of? Fear is a very good thing, it lets u be wary of ur surroundings & keeps u from getting in trouble. If it is fear of falling, go swimming & take some diving lessons, take tumbling lessons & acrobatics all of this so u learn to fall & land safely. If it is fear of speed, learn how to control it with confidence. Have a ski that will be secure under ur foot, & a boot that is tight so it supports you. Keep taking the lessons, ask for a certified instructor who can work with ur fears & build ur confidence. I've skied for 50 + years & taught & l get scared at times, it is normal. Anyone who is not scared at times is dangerous. The difference is what scares me is a drop in to a chute that is near vertical, for u it is a green run. Practice on a slope where u r comfortable, go higher on the hill when u r ready not before. A good instructor will encourage u & push u gently to more challenging terrain within ur skill level. Push ur skills then drop back in to ur comfort zone. Have fun, l hope this helps.

You just need to take ur time skiing on a trial until u r confident to ride down the slope without being terrified.- If that means staying on the bunny hill all day, then do that. Your supposed to have fun while skiing, & enjoy flying down the mountain. If u ride down the mountain in fear u will never get better, or really enjoy it. Besides if ur afraid & just focus on being scared, you're more likely to fall -where as if u were thinking about what actions u should be taking to soar down the mountain, you'd be doing just that. The better u get the less u will be afraid. It just about be confident, & having fun.

l ski double blacks, and l am somewhat fearful also. But im probably fearful in a different way. Im afraid of getting out of control. What are you afraid of. If your just plain afraid, l suggest you keep going, practicing, and taking lessons to break the fear.

it just takes practice. you have to like it, or else you wo not get any better, or any more comfortable on the slopes. start on easy runs, then try doing them faster, and trying to keep your ski is more parallel ect. practice technique on the easier runs and you will be more comfortable on the harder ones.
