l ski, and l am fairly good at it, but l wanna be able to do jumps and grind and everything... any suggestions?l live close to some mountains in Eastern U.S, but not like the anything l see people do such as in the Warren Miller movies...

Most of the extreme skiers in the W M films r professionals who work very hard at their careers. They start with some local ski competitions then win enough to be noticed & try to work some type of financial recompense for their stunts. A movie crew of 6 cameramen, need 12 support staff, the one skier u see on film, has at least 3 others to support his one run of 2 minutes. Not all of the staff r on any one sight at a time. The slopes must be inspected, without leaving tracks for the camera to see, local experience is vital to each shoot. Rent a couple of the older videos & watch them close & compare with the new generation of videos. Try to spot how much of the comic relief was spur of the moment & how much was staged.
How to get in the extreme sports? Polish ur technique, get in shape, get a jump rope & USE IT. Let the local camera buffs know u r willing to ski for their shoots, & learn to use the camera for their runs. It will take time. Learn to ski the steeps & the deeps, there r Powder 8 contests every year, learn about them. Good luck, have fun. Remember the mountain does not care if u live or die.

Alright so eastern mountains. Sugarbush, Killington, Bolton Valley, Mad River, Jay Peak, etc. thats where mostly ski. they r great mountains to get wicked nasty good. so once u have mastered downhill skiing (black diamonds or better), u should learn to ski backwards. it is just as easy as normal skiing but u just bend u legs in the opposite direction. Learning backwards will help u learn fakies & rail spins. as for rails, get comfortable at doing 2-3 feet rails. then for longer ones, come in on the rail at a 45˚ angle. then center u weight & go big! for jumps start with getting comfortable with 2-4 feet of air then work up to 10-15 feet of air, then eventually 20 feet. Start adding in 360 is when u r ready. The KEY thing to remember is wherever u head is pointed, ur body will follow. Then once u get these start adding in indies, fakies, grabs, helis & more. It is all what u can do, so if u want to learn it dont let ur brain get to you. a few bruises is definitely worth it to be a freestyle skier. Good Luck
