l have not skied in 10 years and im about to take a vacation to Breckenridge. l was very good back in the day. Question is do l need lessons again or should l pick it up quickly - kind of like riding a bike?

you should be able to pick it back up pretty quickly

as well as l did for ice skating, l played hockey for about ten years and took a long break but when l got back on the ice after the break l was great

erm id advise just a little refresher at your local ski place because if you go on ya holz and u arnt up to stratch you might hurt your self

Personally I'd get an instructor to check you out before going on the piste unsupervised. Keep safe and enjoy your experience.

l just experienced the same thing. l took a mini-lesson and think it was the best thing! Like a refresher course. ( l had not been on skis since before my daughter was born and she is now 17) Call the resort you're going to. l am sure they have a refresher class.

Most people dont take classes anyway. so l would suggest just go for it. so what if you fall a couple of times. everyone does. good luck and have fun :)

If you were very good you should not need a lesson. l got right back into it a couple of years ago and was jumping jumps, etc. However, l would recommend that your first day you take it easy until you get your legs back. Depending on how old you are now, you may notice that you're not in as good of shape anymore- or who knows, maybe you're in the best shape now you've ever been! Have fun!

l went skiing last Thursday for the first time in about 5 or 6 years. l threw on my skis and went down an intermediate trail on my first run. My 2nd run was a black diamond. Then l went back on Monday, and skied nothing but the diamonds. l honestly did not miss a step. Its like riding a bike. My legs did get tired quick though, but thats to be expected as they have not used those motions in a while. Have fun, l hear Breckenridge is fantastic.

l just did the same thing. l have not skiied in 15 years and my kids have decided they'd like to try it. We went a couple of days after Christmas and l did not have any problems. It WAS just like riding a bike. l was a bit rusty for a short while, but then it was as if I'd never been off them. l think new lessons would be a waste of money. You should just go for it. You will be fine. Have a great time!

It is like riding a bike.

However.if u r using new planks & u learned on straight sticks it would do u well to grab a lesson & learn how to use parabollic skis to their maximum efficiency.

l skied on shaped skis for two years before l learned how to really use them. Now that l know how to use them correctly my skiing has really improved.

If u do not want to get a lesson, ask the guys at the ski shop about technique with the shapes skis or look up some online video lessons.

Have Fun!

You should be ok.

Did you do straight skis or curved skis. If straight skis, you might need some time to adjust to curved skis.

Skiing is exactly like riding a bike--your body never forgets it. l am continually amazed by this quality, season after season. But if u have not skied in a decade, then the major issue will be ur skis. Are u still on straights? If u are, then hop over to the rental department & grab yourself a pair of shaped skis. If the local department is less than reputable or the skis r absolutely trashed, then demo a few pairs. Shaped skis r unbelievable--talk with the person manning the counter & see what they have to say. It might not hurt to sign up for a lesson--some mountains offer them for skiers who already know the fundamentals but want to improve.

Good luck & have a blast!

You should pick up in no time. Refresher lesson could be useful but since u were a good skier, l suspect u will do just fine without.

You r up for a nice surprise with new modern shaped skis, powder skis, & twintip skis. Turn ur old straight skis into a bench & get yourself a new pair of modern skis. Also get a helmet with hi-fi speakers & the kit where u hook up ur cell phone, mic, & mp3 player onto it. Skiing is sooo much more fun these days. Be prepared to get re-hooked! :)

Yeah, the only problem might be that you get tired very soon on your first day. So l would not overdo it in the beginning. But l can not believe one can forget how to do it :)
