My husband is 6'5'' and l am 5'6''. My daughter is average height of a 5 year old (though she is only 4) What size skiis do we need? My husband is new to skiing. l used to ski for years, but have not skiid in the last 10 years. What type of skiis should we get? High Performance, Performance or Recreational Skis?

rent them. the people at the ski shop will help you with everything. and there cheap to rent - there usually between 20 and 25 dollars for the whole package.

Take a series of lessons for ur husband a beginners package will start him off right. A beginners 3lesson package with equipment is now about $150, enroll ur child in a an all day children is program, & u should take a 2 hour private to refresh ur technique & learn about the new skiis.
The new skiis r used differently than the old straight skiis we used 10 years ago. The sport is much faster learning curve than just 5 years ago, the slopes r groomed better & the equipment is much better.
Let the shop personnel choose ur equipment, & then check with ur instructor about any changes u should make.
Welcome back to the sport.
As to the ski lengths, ur husband should be on a 160 to 170 to start, then move up to a higher performance ski. You should probably start with a 150 & then maybe change to a longer ski.

Recreational, basic skis for beginners (or re-learners).

Generally the rule is the tip of the ski should come up to ur eyes. But u might want something a little shorter around the nose maybe, shorter skis mean less speed & easier control, but do not go too short as u will end up having a less than stable ski. If u go to an actual ski shop or mountain shop they should be able to provide u with accurate information. Stay away from places like sport chalet or any other big chain, they're not bad, but they do not always know exactly what they're doing.
Have fun!

l am not quite sure so l says that you rent them, its cheaper and they will fit you there. or if u want to keep the skis, buy them at a place with good customer service and ask them to fit them for you because you dont know much yet. good luck.

l would suggest recreational skis for all of u first. Rec skis r the easiest to use for beginners & re-learners. Also, when u get to the ski resort, the people there will be able to tell u which ones r right ur all of ur heights. i'm 5'8 & last time when l skiid, they gave me a 165 (i couldnt really control it so they gave me a 155) l am not sure about the ''chart'' for women, but if its the same as men, then u might be getting a 155. Either way, the people at the rental shop over at the ski resort will pick one that is good for ur guys' heights. Since ur husband is new to skiing, l would suggest asking for the lowest number that is good for his height.

and remember, if u have a hard time controlling ur skis, take them back & ask for a lower number. Its free & u can do it as many times as u want until u find something that is suitable for you.
