l have no experience with skiing or snowboarding (or water skiing and wake boarding for that matter), so my abilities are awful to begin with. Would l better suited to to begin on skis or a snow board? Why? Do you have any advice for me? Thanks!

snowboarding is a lot harder than skiing. it takes more balance than skiing. skiing is also safer. and easier to learn when first starting off. but try both to see which one you like more

I'd pick skiiing. Snowboarding is much harder. You would not believe how hard it is to pick up snowboarding.

snow boarding is a lot harder but try and once u get the hang of it then u should snowboard all the time! =D

l agree with the other people skiing is a lot easier but at the same time once you get the hang of snowboarding l personally think it is way more fun than skiing. But being that this is your first time, l would have to agree with the others and say that skiing is safer and easier to learn.

It really depends on what your truly interested in. There are some people that immediately want to try one or the other. Choose the one you really are more interested in.
Yes snowboarding is harder to pick up. However, l found that while skiing may be easier to pick up, its much harder to ''get better''. It takes time to get really good at all the different aspects of skiing and not as long for snowboading once you pick it up. Hope that helps!

l personally do both, & would say that learning to ski is much more enjoyable than learning to snowboard. So if ur looking for a sort of one time experience with snow sports l would recommend skiing, because at the end of the day u will feel like u r actually sort of comfortable skiing. Snowboarding on the other hand can take many trips to get comfortable with, & u will spend more time lying on the snow. However, l feel that snowboarding is more rewarding in the long run, until u get really good on skis.

No doubt, skiing would be much easier. l can do both, and snowboarding is just so much more fun to me! and when you crash when your skiing, it is much much more painful. And if you truely want to snowboard, l would choose that instead. But being a beginner, l guess stick with the skiing, haha. good luck!

What a load of baloney. Boarding is about 4 times easier to learn & do, & about 4 times as painful over the first coupla days. Skiing is far more versatile - u can do groomers, park & freeride, as well as more easily do backcountry, extreme, bumps & race. It is also faster (if u want that) & more sophisticated (not for showing off, lovey, but for interest & involvement). Good skiing is a challenge to aspire to, not just a skill but an art. Boarding is somewhat of a quick & easy imitation. However the feeling u get is different - if feels freer & is in itself the greatest of fun when conditions/terrain r right.

Skiing is easier going to begin with, but the learning curve is a long shallow one. You wo not fall over much. You will learn how to do linked wedge or plough turns quickly. You will be able to ski the easiest slopes in a couple of days. In 1 week u will be doing easy runs using a faster form of these turns or a weak, unstable, untidy parallel. In 8 weeks u will be a fairly capable skier & able to get about most of the mountain ok (groomers anyways). It will be fairly obvious that you're not a very experienced skier. Boarders find learning to ski easier.

Boarding has a steep learning curve. You will fall over much. Pad ur butt & other bits esp if learning on quite hard snow. Once you're able to link turns you're away. In 2 days u will be doing easy runs. In 1 week u will be boarding all the groomers except where there r bumps/moguls/steeps. In 2 weeks u will be a fairly capable boarder & able to get about most of the mountain ok. No one except the cognoscenti will really know how long you've been doing it. Skiers find learning to board easier.
