l wanna make a pair of ski just to show them off or would that be just a really big waist of my time... l wanna do this bc skiing is a big part in my life and l thought it would be kinda kool to make a pair

there are ways of making skis, but it is not a simple task. pending on what features you want in your ski it can get quite complicated and costly. However this hobby is becoming more popular with both skis and racquet's. check the local listings to see if there are any shop style programs that offer a hands on teacher to Assist you.

Its definitely a cool project. l am in the middle of building a press to make my second pair of skis. Depending on what tools u have available it may be somewhat troublesome. You will need a table saw, router with various bits, a planer, belt sander, & some others. If ur school has a wood shop u may be able to find everything u need there. The most costly investment would be the press. You can use a vacuum system or build a steel frame pneumatic press. You will also need some sort of design software to draw ur ski parts & mold. Depending on where u are, u can find suppliers for everything u need somewhat locally. Skibuilders tends to be pricey for everything but VDS & edges but the shipping can be a bit more than expected. Fiberglasssupply.com has the cheapest tri-axial fiberglass I've found, & CDW supplies three different size edges, they're stationed in the US & Europe. Crown Plastics can supply Durasurf base material. I've been using West System Epoxy from West Marine but there r plenty of others that work just as well if not better. The skibuilders can supply u with all the knowledge u need.
